Aswan

(September 27th - 28th, 2000)

This picture is of the High Dam.  From this picture you really can't appreciate the size of it.  It is said that this dam contains 18 times the amount of material used in the Great Pyramid of Cheops.  The dam itself is 3600m across, 980m wide at is base and 111m high at its highest point.  Although this dam doesn't look that impressive (and it doesn't), it does create the world's largest artificial lake.

This is our felucca which we sail around the nile on.

Melissa enjoying the camel ride.

This is my try at tricky photography.  The shadow of me and the camel I was riding.

This was one of the views we had during our camel ride. As you can see, if you are not close to the Nile, you're probably not going to have any luck with agriculture and livestock.
Here we are enjoying some great kushari in a local restaurant.  Kushari is basically noodles, rice, lentils, chickpeas covered with tomato sauce and topped with fried onions.  Very yummy!

An unfinished obelisks.

I just found this interesting.  These are drinking water jugs that are all around the cities.

Temple of Philae

While in Aswan we made it to the Temple of Philea which is on one of the islands on Lake Nasser.  Here is the courtyard area.

The Kiosk of Trajan.
